Improving Stress Resilience for Emergency Dispatchers

Working in 9-1-1 requires expending emotional labor each shift, while being exposed to the suffering of others. Over the life of a career in 9-1-1, experiencing compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma and burnout is common. When equipped with the proper tools and outlook, it’s possible to work with these feelings and overcome them, while pursuing a profession filled with meaning and purpose. With the strategies and perspectives taught in this class, participants will be able to combat feelings of job-related burnout, curb their complacency, and continue making a difference in the lives of each caller.

Participants will learn evidence-based practices to:
- Understand the underlying cause of work-related chronic/traumatic stress
- Dramatically lower stress levels and manage burnout
- Limit their exposure to vicarious trauma
- Maintain a healthy balance between work and home life
